What <br />do you consider to be your greatest success in economic development? <br /> <br />He thinks the airport redevelopment project and the wastewater treatment plant <br />project are important to the ED effort. The City contracts with Chamber and ED <br />corporation to provide ED. He participates in prospect visits and orientations as <br />needed. He thinks the two projects mentioned above are their greatest successes. <br />They did economic impact study of the airport project and found the impact to be <br />tremendous, <br /> <br />9. <br /> <br />What was the most significant problem you faced when you assumed your <br />most recent position? How did you resolve it? <br /> <br />He was faced with significant turnover in key positions. He told Council he <br />wanted to be very aggressive in attracting and retaining key people. They agreed <br />with him that this was a priority. They moved to a market-based pay plan. They <br />were able to implement the changes in the last budget. Council has agreed to <br />continue to monitor the pay plan in the future. <br /> <br />10. <br /> <br />What methods have you found to be successful in keeping City Council <br />members informed? <br /> <br />He does several things. He sends out weekly newsletter with current infonnation. <br />He walks them through his calendar. Gives them a sense of where he is spending <br />his time. He meets with the Mayor once per week. They also have Council <br />committees. He also talks to members several times a week on issues. He is <br />available at any time for phone calls or visits from Council. The Council has <br />regular workshops. <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />How do you involve your subordinates in the decision making process? How <br />do you communicate your expectations to the staff? <br /> <br />He uses a bottom-up budget process. They spend almost six-months on the <br />budget. He gets lots of input. He has staff meetings every week. About half of <br />the meeting is Council agenda related. The other half involves project and issue <br />updates. He has open door to them as well. <br /> <br />12. <br /> <br />What steps have you taken to establish and maintain relationships between <br />the City and other local entities such as the school district and the county? <br /> <br />He has set in motion fonnal meetings and has worked on maintaining positive <br />personal relationships with the key players.
