"(Page 2 Minutes of March 7, 1995 Traffic Commission meeting)
Assistant Chief Barnett said that a No Parking Zone on one side of the street would
not leave enough room for traffic while the truck is parked on 11th Street and he
was not aware of any complaints from anyone else at this location. Ed Ellis made a
motion to deny this request. Charles Thompson seconded and the motion to deny car-
ried 7 ayes to 0 nays.
The Third item for consideration was a request to raise the speed zone on West Wash-
ington Street from a 30 MPH Zone to a 40 MPH Zone starting in the 1100 block of West
Washington Street, to the West, to the East boundary line of 19th S.W. Street.
Mr. Orlis Bowden of 824 S.E. 6th Street, Paris, Texas, phone 785 -4315, made this re-
quest. A message was left at his residence that this item would be on the agenda to-
day but he did not appear. He had told Assistant Chief Barnett that he worked at a
plant on 19th S.W. and travelled West Washington to and from work and he felt since
the speed limit on 19th S.W. and West Washington was 40 MPH that the speed zone on
West Washington Street should be 40 MPH also.
Assistant Chief Barnett said that there were only two or three residences in this
area near the intersection of W. Washington and 19th S.W. and the land on each side
of this portion of the street were pastures and that there was only one intersecting
street an increased speed would not be a particular hazzard but there had not been
any problems with the speed zone as it is either. David Gilbert made a motion that
this request be denied since it did not solve any problem. Charley Mackey seconded
and the motion carried 7 ayes to 0 nays.
The Fotrth item was a request to install Four -Way Stop Signs at the intersection of
Clement Road and Fitzhugh Avenue.
This request was made by Mr. Jesse Swindle, phone 785 -1029, due to the number of ac-
cidents at this location and the fact that trees and /or shrubs along the sides of
the streets obstructed the view.
Asssitant Chief Barnett requested that this request be tabled until a traffic count
could be completed at this intersection. The Police Department records indicated
only two accidents at this intersection during 1994 and did not meet the warrants
for Four -Way Stop Signs under accident warrants so a traffic count was being made
at this time to see if warrants were met under that section. Mr. Swindle was told
that it would be requested that this item be tabled pending the traffic count and
was not at this meeting. George Robinson made a motion to table this request.
David Gilbert seconded and the motion carried 7 ayes to 0 nays.
There being no futher business the meeting adjourned at 5:45 P.M.
tames Barnett
Assistant Cheef of Police
