f <br />MINUTES <br />TRAFFIC COMMISSION <br />Tuesday, August 6, 1991 <br />5:15 o'clock P.M. <br />Council Room - City Hall <br />Paris, Texas <br />The Traffic Commission met in regular session Tuesday, August 6, <br />1991, with the following members present: <br />1. Frank Sherman <br />2. Judy Lutz <br />3. Ed Ellis <br />4. David Gilbert <br />5. Gerald Byas <br />6. Charlie Thompson <br />7. Billy Trenado <br />The City Staff was represented by Assistant Police Chief James <br />Barnett. <br />The minutes of the May 7, 1991 regular meeting and the July <br />11, 1991 Special Session were approved as submitted. <br />The first item of business was the election of <br />a Co- Chairman. Charlie Thompson made a motion <br />be elected Chairman. Gerald Byas seconded the <br />made a motion that Charlie Thompson be elected <br />Judy Lutz seconded that motion. Both motions <br />to 0 nays. <br />a Chairman and <br />that Ed Ellis <br />motion. Ed Ellis <br />Co- Chairman. <br />carried 7 ayes <br />The next item was the consideration of a request to open the <br />portion of East Center Street in Fairgrounds property. <br />The Third item was the consideration of a request to open the <br />portion of 6th Street N.E. in the Fairgrounds property. <br />Bobbie Baker and David Taylor appeared before the Commission <br />to speak in favor of opening the streets. Assistant Chief <br />Barnett told the Commission that the Police Chief and Fire <br />Chief had said they would like to see the streets opened back <br />up for the use of police, fire and emergency medical vehicles. <br />After discussion David Gilbert made a motion that the two items <br />be considered together and that the streets be opened with a <br />recommendation that a Stop Sign be placed at the intersection. <br />Assistant Chief Barnett recommended that the stop sign request <br />be placed on the next agenda and acted on next month. Charlie <br />Thompson seconded the motion. (During the discussion it was <br />noted that the Fair Association wanted the streets to remain <br />closed. It was also noted that no one appeared before the Com- <br />mission to speak against the opening of the streets.) A vote <br />was held and the motion to open the streets passed 7 ayes 0 nays. <br />There being no furthur business the meeting adjourned at 5:38P.M. <br />i f <br />ames Barnett <br />
