Minority Recruitment Committee Meeting
August 7, 1999
Page 8
needs to look at that.
Chairman Fisher advised the Committee that McCuistion Hospital is
going to do a health fair because they found out that Mt. Zion has a lot
of people graduating from high school, and they are going to do a
health fair for free. Councilwoman Fisher said they were going to invite
the whole community, black and white, up to Mt. Zion and when they
get through doing the health fair, they are going to advertise for RN's.
Mr. High said he would be happy to provide the City with a list of those
colleges and universities and the contact person for each of those. Mr.
High said he would be glad to take someone from the City with him, or
he would take job notices or vacancies that the City has. Mr. High
suggested that the City make contact with other Fire and Police
Departments and sometime those individuals will tell you that they
know a person who is looking to move to this area, and follow up on
those types of leads.
Mr. Burgin said the only thing that is different in the Police and Fire
Department is, it does not make any difference where they worked.
They still have to come in and take the test just like everyone else.
Everyone is equal and that part is good. Mr. Burgin said this a
requirement of the law.
Chairman Fisher wanted to know if Mr. Malone could get the money to
hire a Human Resource person to handle the personnel for the City.
Mr. Webb said the problem with that is the City does not have enough
jobs to warrant hiring a Human Resource person. Councilman Gray
said if the City spends money on hiring a Human Resource person, and
you hire three people a year, it is not worth it. The City can not justify
the expenditure. Mr. Graves spoke up saying, the City should hire a
headhunter.
City Manager Malone advised that these suggestions would be looked
into.
Chairman Fisher directed the Committee to go and think seriously
