MINUTES
PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
October 21, 1987
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session at 4 p.m., October 21, 1987, in the Library Auditorium
with Chairman Don Black presiding. Present were Robert Pierson,
Bill Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson,
Jackie Alsobrook, and Beth Shelton. Frances Ellis was absent.
Tiana Williams and Roslyn Sample of the Library were present
along with Dick Boots of the City and Sue Smith with the Main
Street Project. Sally Cecil of the Friends and David Sullens
of The Paris News also attended.
The Board looked at the program draft for the dedication.
(See attachment).
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed.
Sally Cecil reported on the Friends' activities. On October
10, 1987, the Friends made a total of $1,330 on their bake sale,
book sale, and plate sale. She then talked about the commemorative
plate promotion.
. Tiana Williams gave the director's report. She discussed
changes in personnel. She asked board members to go to her office
after the meeting to view the Biggers mural, which had arrived,
and she showed us a print which Biggers donated to the library.
She reported that the concert and reception went well although
attendance was not good because of bad weather. Williams explained
that not all of the new furnishings would be delivered in time for
the dedication but that most items had been moved to their permanent
locations. Next followed discussion of the preview and dedication.
Robert Baugh will provide light music for the preview. Williams
answered board questions about gifts to the library and asked for
volunteers to give tours for both the preview and dedication. She
also reported on projected changes in library hours: the library
would continue to be open Tuesday through Saturday. Public hours
would be 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and
Saturday, and 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Thursday. Library employees
would be on duty one hour before the public hours each day except
Thursday. The board supported this recommendation.
In Executive session, the Board discussed and chose its
gift to the Library: The Encyclopedia of Religion.
The meeting was adjourned at 5 p.m.
Beth Shelton, acting secretary
