MINUTES
PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
AUGUST 17, 1988
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session August 17, 1988 in the Library Gallery with Chairman
Bill Hagood presiding. Board members Virginia Gibbs, Jackie
Alsobrook, Beth Shelton, Jean Gibson, Eric Tate and Frances
Ellis were present, and Rogene Patterson and William B. Neely
were absent. Dick Boots from the City of Paris, Youth
Librarian Pamela Sidne1l, and President of the Friends of the
Library Sally Cecil also attended.
Since the Board did not meet in July, the minutes of the
June 15th meeting were approved as circulated. The
Statistical Report showed circulation through July 1988 was
88,760 items, up from 81,767 for the same period last year
with the month of July 1988 increasing to 12,903 from 9,234
for July 1987.
After distributing the monthly budget report from the
city, Mr. Boots discussed the proposed l988-1989 budget for
the fiscal year beginning October l.
He then presented a draft of the proposed Library rules
of conduct for patrons and asked members to study the
proposal and prepare their suggestions for the September
meeting.
A motion was made by Mrs. Gibbs, discussed, seconded and
passed, to nominate Mrs. Joanna Parsons Meade as Alternate
Lay Representative to NETLS.
Youth Librarian Pamela Sidnell reported on a successful
summer reading program and said that two enrollees read more
than 300 books. She complimented the staff, YWCA and others
for promoting the programs. She said attendance was good and
more than 100 were present at one program.
Mr. Boots reported that more than $150 had been received
by using the foyer to sell donated textbooks at 25 cents
each and indicated this might prove to be an easy way to sell
seasonal or special books without setting up a large annual
sale.
He discussed the position of Library Director, noting
that six applicants have been interviewed but that no
selection has been made at this time.
