Paris Public Library Advisory Board Minutes
August 17, 1988 - page 2 of 2
Mr. Tate reported that the Nominating Committee
recommended that the present officers, Chairman Bill Hagood,
Vice-Chairman Virginia Gibbs and Secretary Frances Ellis
continue in office. Mrs. Shelton moved that the Nominating
Committe report be accepted and these officers were elected
by acclamation.
Mrs. Shelton reported that the Committe appointed to
look into the purchase of a computer for public use believed
this would not be helpful since the Library does not have a
staff large enough to devote time to teaching the public to
use the computer. Mr. Tate discussed the needfor the
computer and offered a competent person to draw up the
directions for its use. Board members agreed this might be a
good addition in the future, but that a purchase would not be
made at this time.
Sally Cecil announced that Claire Haslam has been
elected as the new President of the Friends of the Library
and that a book review luncheon at the First Methodist Church
is scheduled for October 28. Reviewer Gloria Hocking will
return and local authors will be honored.
Mrs. Ellis recommended that the Friends of the Library
and the Board work on getting a display of Jerry Bywaters'
art at the Library during the 1989 Art Fair. This Professor
Emeritus of Art at SMU and former Director of the Dallas
Museum of Fine Arts is a Lamar County native.
The meeting was then adjourned at 5 p.m.
Approved:_____________________ ____________________________
Frances Ellis, Secretary
