M L N U T E .3
Paris PubLi.(:, Library Advisory board Meeting
September 2L, 1988
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session September 21, 1988 at 4 p.m. in the Library Gallery
with Chairman Bill Hagood presiding. Board members present
were Jean Gibson, Virginia Gibbs, Frances Ellis, Eric `fate,
Beth Shelton, Rogene Patterson and Jackie Alsobrook: member
William B. Neely was absent. Sue Smith and Dick Boots from
the City of Paris and Acting Director Roslyn Sample and Youth
Library Pamela Sidnell also attended.
The minutes of the August Pith meeting were approved as
circulated. The financial report was distributed, and Dick
Boots stated that only $10,000 had been cut from the 1988 -89
Library book budget.
Mrs. Sample recommended that an amnesty for the return
of long overdue books be held and said that January would be
the best month for this.
FoLlowing a discussion of memorial book policy, Mrs.
Alsobrook moved that the minimum donation for books with
memorial plates be $10.00; and that the acceptance of used
books to be made memorials be at the discretion of the
Director. The motion was seconded and passed.
Mrs. Sample reported on a recent NEWSBANK workshop she
attended at Sherman and said that the Library had purchased a
half year subscription at $1,695.00, to be paid from the book
budget. This is a microfiche service of current events from
national newspapers which covers 14 subjects and has an
annual index. The general feeling of the Board was that
students would find it useful.
Mr. Boots displayed three photographs which Bob Long
enlarged from small pictures of Mrs. T.M. Scott, Miss Nina
Shelton and Mrs. Margaret Baker. Brass plates will identify
each photograph and he noted that wording for a plate for the
Culbertson's portraits is also needed.
Mrs. Sample presented the rules for entering the Texas
Library Association Media Awards (which has a deadline of
February 10, 1989) and said she thought the Library should
enter its own slide /tape program.
