MINUTES OF THE,,4RIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISOP-11�,BOARD MEETING <br />May 20, 1986 <br />The Paris PUblic Library Advisory Board met May 20, 1986 at <br />4 p.m. in the Library with Chairman Virginia Gibbs presiding. Board <br />memebers present were Jim Lynch, Beth Shelton, Bill Hagood, Reeves <br />Hayter, Rogene Patterson and Secretary Frances Ellis. Also present <br />were Library Director Gertiana Williams, Dick Boots, Director of <br />Community Facilities,and Sue Smith of the Main Street Project. Board <br />members Don Black and Robert Pierson were absent. <br />Minutes of the April 23rd meeting were approved as circulated <br />and the Board examined the statistical report for April and the <br />City Budget Report. <br />Mrs. Ellis moved that the three Board Members whose terms are <br />expiring be presented for re- appointment by the City Council. The <br />motion was seconded, discussed and passed. Mr. Lynch asked that he <br />be allowed to retire from the Board and members discussed possible <br />names for presentation to the City Council for consideration. <br />Annual election of officers is scheduled for May but members <br />agreed that the present officers should continue until after the <br />groundbreaking scheduled for June 18 for the restoration and expan- <br />sion of the Library. <br />Ms. Williams displayed the gray paper and envelopes for the <br />invitations for the groundbreaking, and members discussed the wording <br />which will include the speaker, Lt. Gov. William Hobby. Members <br />were asked to submit the names of individuals who should be invited <br />and those who should sit up front to be introduced. <br />The bond election theme "Preserving the Past, Serving the <br />Present" will also be the theme for the groundbreaking. <br />Members discussed the shovels and scoops for children and the <br />hard hats for those taking part in the groundbreaking behind the <br />present Library. Mr.Boots suggested the Library parking lot be <br />roped off for the event, although the program with music by the Jazz <br />Group from the First Methodist Church will begin at 2 p.m. in <br />Bywaters Park on June 18. <br />Mr. Pat Bassano of the PARIS NEWS (who obtained the speaker) <br />will intoduce Lt. Gov. Hobby.
