MINUTES OF THE ARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISO.. BOARD MEETING <br />September 17, 1986 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met September 17, 1986 <br />at 4:00 p.m. in the Library with Chairman Virginia Gibbs presiding. <br />Board members present were Jackie Alsobrook, Bill Hagood, Rogene <br />Patterson, Beth Shelton, Don Black, Robert Pierson and Virginia <br />Gibbs. Board members Frances Ellis and Reeves Hayter were absent. <br />Also present were Architect Bill Lightfoot; Sally Sheppard, President <br />of the Friends of the Library; Dick Boots, Director of Community <br />Facilities for the City of Paris; Gertiana Williams, Director of <br />Library Services; and Roslyn Sample of the Library Staff. <br />The minutes of the July 16, 1986 meeting were approved as <br />corrected. <br />Mr. Lightfoot reported on the building progress stating that <br />the condition of the walls is strong, that the utilities are easily <br />expanded, and that the center hall is not weight bearing. He noted <br />that the large well found (to everyone's surprise) behind the Library <br />should not pose a problem. <br />Mr. Boots reported that we are about $38,000 under the cons- <br />truction budget. He then requested that members of the Board <br />attend City Council meetings when items concerning the Library are <br />on the agenda. <br />Ms. Shappard reported on plans for a membership drive for the <br />Friends and noted she plans to ask for volunteers as well as cash. <br />She expressed a special interest in an adult literacy program and <br />indicated she hopes to have a gala next spring in the unfinished <br />Library addition. <br />Ms. Williams reported the following: <br />1) no action has been taken the by Geneology Society on a <br />move to the Paris Public Library. <br />2) a $50,000 book budget, up from $22,000, has been approved <br />by the City Council. <br />3) expressed appreciation to the staff for their work under <br />the difficult circumstances of construction. <br />4) selection of a data base program called R Base 5000. <br />5) the meeting with Dr. Biggers has not taken place since he <br />has not made a trip to Paris yet. <br />Mrs. Alsobrook reported that at present State Library funds <br />remain at the same level. <br />The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m. <br />Date Approved: <br />Beth Shelton, Acting Secretary <br />
