NINUT BS OF MONTHLY : •B0 4RD MEETING P4RIS PUBLIC LIBRARY - August 16, 1977 The Board of Directors for the Paris Public Library met in regular monthly cession, August 16 1977, at 10 a.m. at the Library with Chairman Robert Pierson, presiding. Present were Dr. Don Black, Mrs. Marvin Gibbs, Pat Bassano, F. D. Mallory, David Denney, and Mrs. Printis Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Dee Cunningham, Herschel McKinney, Felix Gibson and Mrs. Glynn Lowe. Librarians Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Finch were prosent. Minutes of the second annual meeting, Jiily 19, at the Gordon Country Club were read as circulated,to all members, and approved as corrected. The Chairman announced that the City Council had approved a new Ordinance for the Library to make the Library staff official employees: of the City with benefits, and changing the Board from 12 to 7 members. He said the Board would co,itrol the use of the Memorial fund including fines `and fees collected. He said City ' Manager, Kerry Sweatt would like help of members of the Board in finding a professional librarian to hire and Pierson asked Dr. Black to r ^pies ^nt the Board in this selection. Letters of resignation from Mrs. Lowe and Mr.Gibson were re.ad And accepted with regret. P- .erson said he would write a letter to each. To conform to the new Or.: inance , members drew for remaining on the Board or retiring, as follows: Remain: Denney, Gibbs, Mallory, McKinney and Ellis. Retire: Pierson and Cunningham* So that there would be a rotation of tenure on the Board, these -remaining on the Board drew f.or length of terms ( pending approval of the City Council) One Year - Dr. Black and Ellis. Two Yeary - Gibbs, Mallory and McKinney. Three Years Denney and Bassano. Officers for 1977 - 1978 were elected: Chairman - Bassano 'Vice- Chairman Dr. Black Secretary - Ellis Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Finch gave the staff report showing 158 new members dur -ing July, with 100. of them in the County outside City limits. Mrs.Finch said 675 youth readers were receiving Certificates showing they had read as many as 10 books. Before concluding the meting, Retiring. Chairman Pierson expressed appreciation to Board members .and staff for their work, and pleasure in having a new City Ordinance providing benefits for the staff, and offered his assistance in.the future in any way needed. Bassano expressed apprecia-tion of the other Board members for the leadership Pierson has given in getting the City Ordinance completed, and other improvements done during his tenure of , office
