NINUT BS OF MONTHLY : •B0 4RD MEETING <br />P4RIS PUBLIC LIBRARY - August 16, 1977 <br />The Board of Directors for the Paris Public Library met in <br />regular monthly cession, August 16 1977, at 10 a.m. at the Library <br />with Chairman Robert Pierson, presiding. Present were Dr. Don Black, <br />Mrs. Marvin Gibbs, Pat Bassano, F. D. Mallory, David Denney, and Mrs. <br />Printis Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Dee Cunningham, Herschel McKinney, <br />Felix Gibson and Mrs. Glynn Lowe. Librarians Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Finch <br />were prosent. <br />Minutes of the second annual meeting, Jiily 19, at the Gordon Country <br />Club were read as circulated,to all members, and approved as corrected. <br />The Chairman announced that the City Council had approved a new <br />Ordinance for the Library to make the Library staff official employees: <br />of the City with benefits, and changing the Board from 12 to 7 members. <br />He said the Board would co,itrol the use of the Memorial fund including <br />fines `and fees collected. He said City ' Manager, Kerry Sweatt would like <br />help of members of the Board in finding a professional librarian to hire <br />and Pierson asked Dr. Black to r ^pies ^nt the Board in this selection. <br />Letters of resignation from Mrs. Lowe and Mr.Gibson were re.ad And <br />accepted with regret. P- .erson said he would write a letter to each. <br />To conform to the new Or.: inance , members drew for remaining on the Board <br />or retiring, as follows: <br />Remain: Denney, Gibbs, Mallory, McKinney and Ellis. <br />Retire: Pierson and Cunningham* <br />So that there would be a rotation of tenure on the Board, these <br />-remaining on the Board drew f.or length of terms ( pending approval of <br />the City Council) <br />One Year - Dr. Black and Ellis. <br />Two Yeary - Gibbs, Mallory and McKinney. <br />Three Years Denney and Bassano. <br />Officers for 1977 - 1978 were elected: <br />Chairman - Bassano <br />'Vice- Chairman Dr. Black <br />Secretary - Ellis <br />Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Finch gave the staff report showing 158 new <br />members dur -ing July, with 100. of them in the County outside City limits. <br />Mrs.Finch said 675 youth readers were receiving Certificates showing <br />they had read as many as 10 books. <br />Before concluding the meting, Retiring. Chairman Pierson expressed <br />appreciation to Board members .and staff for their work, and pleasure in <br />having a new City Ordinance providing benefits for the staff, and offered <br />his assistance in.the future in any way needed. <br />Bassano expressed apprecia-tion of the other Board members for <br />the leadership Pierson has given in getting the City Ordinance completed, <br />and other improvements done during his tenure of , office <br />
