PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
May 20, 1992
Minutes
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session, May 20, 1992, at 4 PM in the Gallery with
Chairman Bill Neely presiding and these members present:
Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex,
and Beth Shelton. Frances Ellis, Virginia Gibbs, and Bill
Hagood were absent. Beverly Lewis, Library Director,
attended; as did Thomas Seay, NETLS Lay Representative.
No representatives from the Friends attended.
Minutes of the April 15, 1992, were amended in paragraph
13: Mrs. Patterson's term expires, not Mrs. Gibson's as
stated.
Budget figures were studied, and Lewis explained that she
is scheduling to make sure materials ordered will arrive
within the budget year.
The monthly statistical report showed a drop in
circulation, down 8 %. Lewis researched that decline and
found that reference work for students was up, but check
out of leisure reading materials was down. Apparently
students were completing more homework assignments, and,
therefore, did not have time to check out books for fun:
1,083 Juvenile titles down for the month. Another point
in the report: evening circulation held even.
The month was quiet for accessions. We added 312 titles,
14 videos, and received 27 memorials and gifts. However,
there are about ten boxes of materials in the back room
awaiting processing.
Neely reported progress on the Thrasher recognition. We
have made application to the Paris Area Arts Alliance for
$500. We have had no reply yet, and there are no
specifics to report on the kind of display it might be.
Lewis distributed the new Paris Public Library brochure.
The Advisory Board went into Executive Session at 4:20 PM
and came out of Executive Session at 4:35 PM.
Alsobrook reported that the County Funding Committee has
met and is exploring the possibility of county funding.
Lewis distributed the Summer Reading Club calendars. The
theme is "Read for Fun Because Kids Who Read Succeed ".
The programs will take place at 2 PM each day the Library
is open, June 6 through August 1 and the Club targets
children ages 4 and up.
