PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES
October 21, 1992
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session, October 21, 1992, at 4 PM in the Gallery with
Chairman Bill Neely, presiding and these members present:
Jackie Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Bill
Hagood, Beth Shelton, and Frances Ellis, Secretary.
Absent was Joe Rex. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, and
Thomas Seay, NETLS Lay Representative, were present.
Minutes of the September 23, 1992, meeting were approved
as circulated.
Ms. Lewis discussed the budget saying the department came
in under budget overall, but all the materials money was
expended. In the status report, she said total
circulation for the past fiscal year was 194,501 items
which was an increase of 1.25 percent. Other areas of
increase included reference assistance, items reserved,
programs, and acquisitions. She said 11,000 items were
checked out during the Tuesday and Thursday evening hours.
She discussed the video circulation, noting it has leveled
off somewhat during the past year. One explanation could
be that movie fans have already seen the fiction videos in
the Library's collection. She said the circulation of
non - fiction videos is increasing. Also on the increase
are the large print books which are now intershelved; more
than doubling in the past month. She explained to Board
members who had been called about this matter that these
books have a large red "LP" on the spines, making them
more visible.
The Chairman and Frances Ellis spoke about the recognition
of the Thrasher artists planned for January 14 -18, with
questions about how to handle publicity since the Paris
Area Arts Alliance is taking the lead in the project.
Neely said there is probably enough money pledged with the
$500 from the Board and $200 from the Alliance to pay
security; the City will add on insurance when the value of
the art is determined; the Friends will pay for the
reception refreshments. So money for the program and
invitations may have to be secured. Names of sponsors on
the program were mentioned.
Bill Hagood said he had tried to get with Gene Anderson of
the City to see where the $5,000 from the will of Janice
Hooker had been deposited.
