October 19, 1994 <br />Minutes <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, <br />October 19, 1994, in the Gallery with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding and these <br />members present: Jackie Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, <br />Keitt Wood, NETLS Lay Representative, and Frances Ellis, Secretary.- Beverly <br />Lewis, Library Director, was present. Absent were Jean Gibson and Bill Hagood. <br />Minutes of the September 21, 1994, meeting were approved as circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis said there was no budget report from the City Finance Department yet. <br />She went over the statistical report for the fiscal year 93'94 just ended. 195,436 <br />items circulated, which was a 2.35% increase over the previous year, and she added <br />that was very good because the library was closed thirteen days for barcoding and <br />yet still had an increase in circulation. There were also increases in the numbers of <br />new library cards issued, reference assistance provided, items reserved, ILL loans, <br />and contributions. 109, 983 persons visited the library. <br />The annual report indicated the following accessions: 1,405 adult fiction (360 in <br />large print format); 2,061 adult non - fiction; 1,253 juvenile fiction; 531 juvenile non- <br />fiction; 709 videos; and 232 audio books. <br />In September, 15,701 items circulated and 450 books, 11 audios, and 171 videos <br />were added to the collection. <br />Ms. Lewis reported on the progress in automating the library. She said all patrons <br />will have to reregister and that bar codes for the new library cards are here so <br />registration will begin next month. <br />The Director, Connie Baker, a volunteer, and Keitt Wood, NETLS Lay <br />Representative, attended the NETLS quarterly meeting October 5, and Mrs. Wood <br />said it was a good place to learn. She send a report about the pending legislation <br />affecting libraries to Senator Bill Ratliff, and he acknowledged. Ms. Lewis will <br />serve on the State and Local Liaison Committee another year. <br />
