PAGE 2 <br />LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />SEPTEMBER 20, 1995 <br />Ms. Lewis advised the two new CD Rom reference products, "Infotrac" and <br />"SIRS ", will be installed and available to patrons soon. Staff training on them will <br />be conducted prior to placing them in the public area. <br />Children's Librarian Emily Kirkman gave six programs at two elementary schools <br />recently, reaching more than 375 children. The programs for the Head Start <br />children will be held in the Library this year and eleven classes will visit over a two - <br />week period. The new weekly program for five - year -olds is proving successful as <br />was the First Saturday of the Month Reading Club" program. Also, the Children's <br />Librarian now has an American Red Cross First Aid/CPR certificate. <br />The Board unanimously elected the same officers for this year, upon motion by Jean <br />Gibson, second by Keitt Wood: Chairman, Beth Shelton; Vice Chairman, Joe Rex; <br />Secretary, Frances Ellis. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the City Council approved the Library Budget Request for FY <br />95 -96. Significant line items include: 110,000 for materials; and 28,000 for an <br />outreach services vehicle. The Department total is $574,905. Also, the part-time <br />Clerk position in the Children's Department has been increased to full -time. <br />Kathie Gibbs reported plans for the Friends October 23 luncheon were set and Ms. <br />Lewis agreed to handle the publicity. Reservations had been coming in steadily and <br />she expects the musical book review about Mary Martin to be a sellout. <br />The meeting adjourned at 5:05 PM <br />_--1 <br />Frances Ellis, Secretary Date <br />
