MINUTES
PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
JANUARY 16, 1991
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session, January 16, 1991, in the Library Gallery with
Virginia Gibbs, Chairman, presiding and these members
present: Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Bill Neely,
Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, Frances Ellis, Secretary,
and Joe Rex, welcomed as a new member. Bill Hagood was
absent. Delores Hayter, President of the Friends
attended. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, was present.
Minutes of the December 19 meeting were approved as
circulated.
Ms. Lewis discussed the budget report saying 24.5 percent
of the funds had been spent for the fiscal year to date,
with books and supplies costing more. She went over the
Monthly Status Report in detail showing the circulation
for the year to date was 40,629, a 50.7 percent increase
over the previous year. She noted the video circulation
figure was a large part of the increase.
Mrs. Alsobrook reported the Texas Conference on Libraries
and Information Services in Austin, January 4 -5 was
inspiring and informative and both she and City Manager,
Mike Malone, were impressed. He was elected a Delegate by
those attending, who were made up of one fourth
Librarians, one fourth Library Supporters, one fourth
government and elected officials, and one fourth general
public. Efforts to get Malone elected to the National
Conference were not successful. Alsobrook said more
legislation will be needed to get the funding to help
libraries achieve their potential.
Ms. Lewis said the January 11 dinner in the Gallery
honoring volunteers was attended by 54 and the volunteers
were given mugs, cretificates of appreciation, and Library
plates. Mrs. Gibson was thanked for serving as Chairman
and doing much of the work in getting the food together
and other items for the tables.
Rex moved approval of the payment of invoices for the
plates, mugs, invitations, certificates, and the ham which
was cooked in the kitchen, amounting to $209.24. Motion
seconded, discussed, and passed.
Members encouraged Ms. Lewis to seek city funds to pay for
the $435 invoice on the repair of the electronic lettering
system machine.
