Dr. Cutrell said that Dr. Beachley is under contract until
August 1994. He also said that the Lamar County Health
Board needs to make sure that the Lamar County Jail is
covered adequately so Dr. Beachley really could not be let
go. The negatives for Dr. Beachley serving as a temporary
director is the speed at which he is able to see patients.
Dr. Cutrell said he thought there were a couple of options
available. The first would be the get the OB Nurse
Practitioner and let Dr. Beachley be the Family Practice
physician. The second would be to hire both Nurse
Practitioners and let Dr. Beachley serve as the Director.
The cost to duplicate Medical Directors would probably be
more than we want to spend. Dr. Cutrell said he would
like to stick with Dr. Beachley until his contract runs
out.
Discussion was held on the revised budget.
Monty McLaurin said he would just like to remind everyone
that several months ago some people contacted him about
Dr. Beachley ending his contract with no one stepping
forward to fill his shoes. Due to this, the idea of
establishing a Rural Health Clinic came about. Mr.
McLaurin suggested getting the two Nurse Practitioners,
one 4pecializing in OD and one in Primary Care, and
1eaving Dr. Beachley as the Medical Director for the time
being. Mr. McLaurin said this would make it possible to
improve billing and collection, increase the number of
patients seen and let all of these monies coming in before
increasing monies being paid out.
Dr. Cutrell said that this was a different situation
because the RHC would be working with both hospitals not
just a St. Joseph's clinic working with St. Joseph's
physicians- Carrie Thompson said hers was not referring
to just Bt. Joseph's physicians but both hospitals
physicians. Mr. McLaurin said the St. Joseph's Emergency
Room physicians have said that they will cover the jail if
the need arises. Evelyn Freeman said that the OB/Gyn
physicians would probably feel more comfortable stepping
in come August 1994. Gary Gunder suggested that Dr.
Cutrell approach Dr. Beachley about being the Medical
Director of the RHC at least until his contract runs out.
Both Mike Norby and Julie Maddox said this would mean that
the monies for additional funding would be reduced by
$50,000.00 and the RN/LVN salaries would decrease due to
loosing one RN. The positions will change from two RNs
and one LVN to one RN and two LVNs.
T.K. made a motion to approach Dr' Beachley about being
the Medical DIrector for the RHC until the end of his
contract. Julie Maddox seconded. All were in favor.
