F.D. Mallory III - Chairman
2. Spencer Abbott
3. Dee Cunningham
4. Bill Lightfoot
5. Curtis Wallace
Also present was Joe McCollum, Director of Community Development.
Chairman Mallory called the meeting to order and declared the public hearing
open on the appeal of Anthony Nolan, Jr. for a variance to Section 9 -502
(2) of the City of Paris Zoning Ordinance on Lot 9, Block P, Tanglewood
Estates located at 1030 31st S.E.
Mr. Nolan was present and explained that his residence, which is on a corner
lot, was built observing a front set back on both streets. He had started a
carport on the north side of his house thinking that only a 10 foot set
back was required. No permit was secured before start of construction due
to a mixup between him and the contractor.
A 30 foot building line was established by the plat of Tanglewood Estates
along Abbott Lane and his carport would be in violation of the platted build-
ing line. He requested approval to treat the Abbott Lane side as a side
building line and be allowed to build the carport 10 feet from the property
line.
Homer Briggs, 3065 Abbott Lane and Harold Campbell, 3060 Abbott Lane were
present in opposition to the request. They stated that the 30' building line
should be observed.
Letters from Mr. Campbell and Morris Tobin, 3064 Abbott Lane were placed on
record in opposition to the variance.
There was no one else to speak on the matter and the public hearing was
closed.
Discussion followed and Mr. Abbott made a motion to deny the variance saying
that with the objections received, approval was not justified. Mr. Lightfoot
seconded the motion which carried 5 ayes and 0 nays.
