MINUTES - BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
NOVEMBER 10, 1982
The Board of Adjustment of the City of Paris met in a called
meeting Wednesday, November 10, 1982, 5:15 P.M. in the Council
Room of City Hall. Chairman F.D. Mallory, III called the meeting
to order with the following members present: Spencer Abbett,
Alec Woods, Richard Nafe and John W. Williams, Jr. Also present
was Joe McCollum, Director of Community Development.
Chairman Mallory called the first item of business which was
the petition of Bobby Smallwood for a variance to Section 9-
602 (5) of the Zoning Ordinance on part of Lots 20 and 23,
City Block 72 located at 544 E. Grove Street.
Mr. Smallwood stated his crew had set up the foundation of the
house at this location approximately 4 feet east of the limits
set by the building permit and the house was virtually complete
before it was brought to his attention by City Officials that
it was too close to the side street property line.
It was pointed out that a traffic hazard would be created
because the garage entrance on the side street was less than
10 feet from the pavement and it would be difficult to see
clearly while backing out of the garage.
Mr. Smallwood advised the Board that there was no driveway
proposed to the garage at this time and it was unlikely that it
would be used for car storage.
Mr. Williams stated it would be a large expense to correct the
problem and felt it did not detract from the neighborhood.
Mr. Nafe said he did not see a real hazard in the situation.
Mr. Woods voiced no objection.
Following discussion Mr. Abbett made a_motion to approve the
variance and allow the structure to remain as is. Mr. Williams
seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
t p.
J e N. 'McCollum
cretary ex officio
