Members Present: F.D. Mallory Toni Clem Members Absent: Edith Bills BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS TUESDAY, JUNE 6, 1995 5:15 P.M., CITY HALL ANNEX W.M. Lightfoot Richard Nafe Toni Clem made a motion to elect F.D. Mallory to serve as Chairman for the Board of Adjustments. Seconded by Bill Lightfoot and carried by a vote of 3 ayes and 0 nays. Pubic Hearing to consider the petition of Mr. Monte Cowley for a variance to section 9 -501 (1) of the City of Paris Zoning Ordinance relative to front yard requirements on Lot 13, Block A, of the College Heights Addition, located at 2230 College Street. Mr. Cowley addressed the Board of Adjustments and told them he would like to build a carport with no walls, no sides on it and no doors. He explained that he wanted to come off the house at the same pitch as the original roof and cover it with the same color shingles. He said that the house originally had a garage but somebody in the past changed it into a room. They had taken out the original garage door and built a wall, then on the outside they raised the driveway then they put a wooden floor where the garage was. Mr. Cowley said that he had already checked into putting it back into a garage, but in order to do that he would either have to tear the driveway out and back down to the original level or fill that hole up with concrete to bring it up level with the driveway. He told the board that the expense was to great. Mr. Cowley also informed the board that he didn't have enough room on either side of his house because he only had enough room for a single walk through gate on both sides of his property. Mr. Cowley said that from the end of his house to the curb of the driveway was 41 'and 5" and he would like to come no further than 20' which would still be 21' and 5" to the curb. He also said the carport would be no more obstructive as far as the view than it was presently with vehicles parked in the drive. Mr. Lusby of 2240 College also addressed the Board in support of Mr. Cowley. He stated that as far as he was concerned he had no objection to this allowance. Mr. Methven informed the board of two phone calls in opposition to the petition. After some discussion by the Board, Toni Clem made a motion to allow the variance by Ordinance 9 -501 (1) of the City of Paris on Lot 13, Block A, of the College Heights Addition. The motion was seconded by Bill Lightfoot and carried with a vote of 4 ayes and 0 nays. Motion made by Chairman Mallory to adjourn, seconded by Toni Clem. Motion carried 4 ayes 0 nays.
