Budget Committee
August 7, 1999
Page 10
the Sales Taxes will come in like it comes in, that there is no controlling
it.
City Manager Malone mentioned that an informal public hearing has
been scheduled for Monday night if any of the Committee Members
would like to attend. Also, there will be a more formalized public
hearing which complies with the law after the budget is presented. City
Manager Malone said he hoped to present his proposed budget by the
middle of the month.
Councilman Pfiester said as a Committee, he felt they needed to decide
what the goals and the objectives are, what they are attempting to
achieve, the level of service provided, and what the capital needs are.
City Manager Malone announced that the full Council will be presented
the proposed budget and the Committee will receive a copy of it. City
Manager Malone said, in this next week, he could make arrangement
utilizing a van and members of the Committee could tour areas in the
City. You might want to look at the police station, or some may wish to
be familiar with the water treatment, sewer treatment plant, or take a
look at Lake Crook, or various parks and recreation facilities. There
are various drainage areas in the City that are concerns to others that
you might want to look at.
Councilman Gray said he would like to look at the parks, streets, and
tour the police department. Councilman Gray also said he would like
the City Council, and everybody that can to take a look at the police
department. Councilman Gray stressed the need for a new police
station. He also wanted drainage work put inside the City.
Mr. Wilson stated that the only logical way to go about this is to have
the staff present the Committee with the capital expenditures
requirements, or their wish list for the year 2000. Mr. Wilson also
suggested that each department prepare a declining list of what they
absolutely must have as to their capital requirements for the year. Mr.
Wilson said put it all in a format where you can set down with one sheet
and look at the entire process and not an individual department.
