Department 51 Paris - Lamar County Health Department - The City of Paris and the Lamar County government with the financial assistance of the Texas Department of Health, sponsor the operation of the Paris - Lamar County Health Department. The City and County jointly appoint a Board of Health responsible for the administration of the Health Department, a separate agency from the City. This department budget is included in the budget of the City for the purpose of publication and financial control. Employees of this department are responsible for protecting the public health through immunization programs, the operation of an STD clinic, health inspections, restaurant inspections and food handlers training, mosquito control, well baby clinics, and family planning programs. A Rural Health Clinic is also operated within the Health Department, offering the services of a Family Nurse Practitioner directed by a physician. The Women, Infants and Children program (WIC) also operates within the location of the Health Department. WIC is a federal program funded through the State providing nutrition counseling and assistance for women and young children. All funding to operate the WIC program comes from the State. Much of the funding for the other services comes from State grants and patient fees. The shortfall in the operations, if any, is funded on a 50/50 basis by the City and Lamar County.
