4. Additional fire department personnel
Three persons are required to be added prior to opening the fourth station. We should be
prepared to hire them immediately after the budget year begins if we are to build the station this
year. We keep losing momentum on this project so it is unsure if they are needed this year, or the
next?
5. Code Enforcement Officer
It is time that we hire an additional full time person for Code Enforcement and if we really want
Paris clean, make provisions to add summer enforcement officers on a part time basis. Mike is
simply overwhelmed. The person or persons requested would be used for field inspection only;
answering complaints and surveying neighborhoods for complaints.
I don't think I have to elaborate on the work Mike is doing because we all know. We've been
talking about streamlining programs for years, better court action, better ordinances, etc. In the
meantime though, the work just keeps coming and it gets worse all the time. I can certainly
justify this recommendation in any detail needed.
SECTION THREE: SUPPLY ACCOUNTS
1. 0203 Food
$25,000.00
This is primarily for feeding the inmates. A small amount is for fire department use.
Regardless of the project, the food for these men has been coming out of the department budget.
This is fine and is probably the easiest way to manage.
This program is still performing very well. The work completed is certainly worth the small
investment.
2. 0204 Uniforms $41,500.00
Replacement protective clothing $21,500.00
12 Coat / pant sets
12 Helmets
12 Sets of boots
This request replaces old or worn personal protective gear for current staff. We have begun a
program which budgets the funds to replace a few each year. With 50 employees, this will be an
on -going item. If we don't do this, we will be faced with replacing 50 sets at once about every
five years. That would total approximately $90,000.00 based on current prices. This method is
much easier on us and total budgets.
