James Holland, 790 31st N. E., was present asking for the repeal of Ordinance No. 92 -006 because the consumption of alcohol destroys lives and families, and urged the City Council to repeal the ordinance. Butch Carmack; 920 S. E. 28th, came forward stating that he was presently a candidate for District No. Six of the City of Paris, and asked the question regarding the liability, if someone has an accident leaving the fairgrounds, who is responsible? Mr. Carmack said we need to put the issue to a vote by the citizens of Paris. Randy Couch, 231 E. Booth, appeared before the Council asking for the repeal of Ordinance No. 92 -006. Mr. Couch said that from time to time teens have heard the term "Just Say No ", but from the term of the ordinance you are asking us to say yes by legalizing alcohol in public buildings, making it accessible to young teens as well as others. Mr. Couch also stated that adults as roll models have ask us to live up to standards, and to take on leadership rolls and to become better follows of what they have set for us to do, if this is legalized, what example or roll models do you want us to follow? Martha Bone, 580 33rd S. E., asked that each Council members to stop and think, if we want everything out in the open and fair, where are the people that are urging you to have alcohol consumption in public buildings? Ms. Bone said that we are here as visible people who would like this ordinance rescind. Councilman Bell advised the Council that this afternoon he agreed, and did meet with a number of representatives from the call group, they included Randall Scott, Lane Park, Steve Phillips, Dwight Blankenship, and Jay McCollum. Councilman Bell said this is an extremely devices issue that comes before the City Council. Councilman Bell said that he has talked to people in the city who spend the entire lives fighting drugs and alcohol, and he has talked to people who are in the position that he is in, and Councilman Bell said he does drink and would like to see alcohol in control circumstances at the fairgrounds, and at the Civic Center when that issue comes up, but he said he did not want the deviceness to continue here. Councilman Bell told the Council that in the meeting this afternoon, those gentlemen said they would set down at a table, as they did this afternoon, with representative of all groups to see if a compromise could be reached for this City, proper control if the control is there, no alcohol if that is the decision, but they did agree to meet. Councilman Bell stated that this issue has been brought up by the petition, that we have only so many days in which to call an election. We passed this issue a month ago, and this call group had a maximum of twenty days to respond. Councilman Bell stated that he thinks it is time we take time to respond, theses men have agreed to do this.
