City Manager Malone reported to the Council that we received today a <br />letter from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, that <br />the City of Paris has been awarded a grant in the amount of $250,000.00 <br />for street paving and drainage improvement made available through the <br />Texas Community Development Program. <br />Karl Louis, Police Chief, came forward giving the Council information <br />regarding the riot at Skate Land Saturday night evolving a large <br />segment of the youth in the community and some of the City's police <br />officers. Chief Louis told the Council that as the crowd disbursed <br />there, several members of the crowd walked on down 17th Street to the <br />intersection of MLK Drive and Fitzhugh Avenue, at which time they began <br />to rock cars passing by and becoming disorderly, Police were again <br />call. The officers did arrest eight people at this time. Chief Louis <br />advised that they would be taking extra precautions this coming <br />weekend with additional staff on duty to help curb this situation. <br />Chief Louis asked the Council to reconsider a curfew for the City of <br />Paris for -age 16 and below from 12:00 midnight to 6:00 A. M. <br />Mayor Fisher advised the Council that the City Attorney had received <br />information from the City of Ft. Worth on their curfew ordinance, we do <br />not want to go into this blind, we want to do it right so that we will <br />not be challenged in the courts, so under these circumstances, we need <br />to give City Attorney Haynes time to research the curfew ordinance. <br />Mayor Fisher announced that the Council would go into executive <br />session, and declared the regular session closed, and the executive <br />session open. <br />Legal matters were discussed with City Attorney Haynes. <br />Mayor Fisher declared the executive session closed, and the regular <br />— session open. <br />There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. <br />GVORGE 'FISHER, MAYOR, CITY OF PARIS <br />ATTEST: <br />l <br />` MAATTIE CU NINGHAM, CITY Lf <br />
