RESOLUTION NO. 91 -006 WHEREAS, there is now pending before the Texas Highway Commission a proposal known as the "Green Carpet Route" for increasing traffic capacity on U. S. Highway 271 by completing to a four -lane highway all sections of its route from the Texas Gulf Coast to Paris, Texas; and, WHEREAS, the East Texas /Gulf Highway Association for almost twenty years has been dedicated to see the Green Carpet Route completed; and, WHEREAS, completion of the Route is within three priorities of reaching its goal: 1) four lanes - three miles on U.S. 271 (Mount Pleasant to Franklin County Line); 2) four lanes - 47 miles on U.S. 271.(Franklin County Line to Paris); and 3) a single route designation for the entire route; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris has continued its support of the twenty seven year effort of the East Texas Gulf Highway Association; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, that the three priorities for completion of the "Green Carpet Route ", being: 1) four lanes - • three miles on U.S. 271 (Mount Pleasant to Franklin County Line) ; 2) four lanes - 47 miles on U.S. 271 (Franklin County Line to Paris); and 3) a single route designation for the entire route, are hereby endorsed for approval by the State Highway Commission. Clifford, Mayor Resolution No. 91 -007 appointing Marvin Snodgrass, as a member of the Building Commission of the City of Paris, to serve until his successor is appointed was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Fendley, seconded by Councilman Kent for approval of the resolution. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays.
