Bell
for a change in zoning from a General Retail District (GR) to a Commercial District
(C) on Lot 11, City Block 223, located at 1946 Lamar Avenue.
Jim Bell addressed the Commission stating that the property was located just
west of the Chief Auto Parts store and that several inquiries about the property
had been received that required Commercial zoning. He said the property on the
north side of Lamar is Commercial and he wanted to be in a position to use the
lot should a commercial type business desire to locate there.
There was no one present in opposition and the public hearing was closed.
Mr. McCollum pointed out that to zone this lot Commercial would create an incon-
sistent zoning pattern on the south side of Lamar between 19th S.E. and 20th S.E.
He stated it was difficult to argue against it due to existing Commercial zoning
on the north side of the street but that the entire block should be changed
rather than one or two lots.
Following discussion, a motion was made by Mr. Davidson, seconded by Mrs. Smith,
to recommend approval of the change. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays.
Chairman Swaim opened the public hearing on the petition of Donald Robinson for
a change in zoning from a General Retail District (GR) to a Commercial District
(C) on Lot 9, City Block 223 located on the southeast corner of Lamar Avenue
and 19th S.E.
Mr. Robinson was present and stated his reasons for wanting the change to
Commercial were the same as Mr. Bell's inasmuch as their lots are in the same
block, separated by one lot.
