He pointed out that the property south of them was owned by the <br />Paris Bible Church and they propose a school at that location. <br />There was no one else present to speak for or against the request and the <br />public hearing was closed. <br />Following discussion a motion was made by Mrs. Smith, seconded by Mr. <br />McMonigle to recommend approval. The motion carried 8 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Chairman Swaim declared the public hearing open on the petition of the <br />Paris Jaycees for a change in zoning from a One Family Dwelling District <br />No. 2 (SF -2) to a General Retail District (GR) on Lot 1, Block A, Jubilee <br />Addition located at 1275 19th N.W. <br />Derald Bulls spoke for the Jaycees saying that they had purchased the building <br />at this location to have a place to meet and to provide a place for other <br />groups to use. He submitted a petition signed by area residents in support <br />of their request. <br />There were several Jaycees in the audience in support but no one else spoke <br />for or against the change and the public hearing was closed. <br />Following discussion Mr. Nutt made a motion to recommend approval. Mr. <br />Davidson seconded the motion which carried 8 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Chairman Swaim declared the public hearing open on the petition of Thomas <br />Burton for a change in zoning from a One Family Dwelling District No. 3 (SF -3) <br />to a General Retail District (GR) on Lots 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15, Block Q of <br />East Park Addition located on the east side of Fitzhugh Avenue, 150 feet south <br />of E. Hickory Street. <br />Mr. Burton was present and told the Commission that he wanted to build a <br />j structure for a community meeting place where older residents could have <br />entertainment without having to go to the "corner ". <br />He said he had owned two of the five lots involved for 25 years and there was <br />sufficient room to provide a building and off street parking. <br />J.R. Lane, 1410 Fitzhugh, spoke in opposition to the change saying the area <br />should stay residential and Mr. Burton could build houses on the lots if <br />he wanted to build something. He said more business use would increase noise <br />and traffic in the area and ,Jmake it hard to get in and out of his driveway. <br />Juanita Smith, 1400 Fitzhugh said she was against the change and wanted no <br />more clubs. Jodie Adkins, 1490 Fitzhugh also voiced opposition to the change <br />saying it should stay residential. <br />No one else spoke and the public hearing was closed. <br />Discussion followed and Mrs. Battle made a motion to recommend denial of the <br />request. Mr. McMonigle seconded the motion which carried 8 ayes, 0 nays. <br />M <br />
