Willie <br />Thomas, 1835 Blake Road was opposed to retail use and ask that it remain <br />residential. John Washington, speaking for a group of residents along 17th <br />N.E. voiced objection to any development except residential. <br />Linda Williamson, 1730 Blake Road and Marva Joe, 1610 17th N.E. also voiced <br />their objection to the change. <br />John McGee, 1140 20th N.E. suggested that the matter be tabled until Mr. <br />Shelton could meet with area residents about his plans. <br />No one else was present to speak and the public hearing was closed. <br />Mrs. Battle stated she could appreciate the objections stated and felt the <br />zoning should not be approved. She made a motion to recommend denial of the <br />petition. Mr. McMonigle seconded the motion which carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Chairman Swaim declared the public hearing open on the petition of Ronald <br />Billman for a change in zoning from a Multi - Family Dwelling District No. 1 <br />(MF -1) to a General Retail District (GR) on Lots 16 and 17, City Block 220 <br />located at 1705 and 1719 E. Houston Street. <br />Mr. Billman was present and stated his intention of constructing an office <br />building on this property for his accounting office. He said there were <br />presently two houses at the location, one of which he lives in. He noted <br />the existing General Retail zoning on the property across the street and <br />stated the property had lost its usefullness for residential use. <br />There was no one else present to speak on the matter and the public hearing <br />was closed. <br />Mr. McCollum noted that this particular area was proposed for retail use on <br />the master plan. <br />Following discussion, Mr. Perry made a motion to recommend approval of the <br />petition. Mr. Nutt seconded the motion which carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Chairman Swaim declared the public hearing open on the petition of Sam Gentle <br />for a change in zoning from a One Family Dwelling District No. 2 (SF -2) to <br />a Multi- Family Dwelling District No. 1 (MF -1) on Lots 7 and 8, City Block <br />255 -A located at 2635 and 2645 E. Price Street. <br />Mr. Gentle told the Commission that he was 77 years old and has never <br />constructed any type of building in the City Limits and through ignorance <br />had converted a garage to a residence behind his house at 2635 E. Price <br />Street without any building permits. He said he was unable to obtain <br />electricity to the structure because of the single family zoning which allows <br />only one dwelling unit per lot. He went on to say that the house was built <br />for a man and wife to live in to help take care of his wife who is in ill <br />health. <br />There were about 8 persons in the audience who were opposed to the MF -1 <br />zoning. Mr. Charley Jones, 2691 E. Price stated the neighbors were not against <br />Mr. Gentle but felt the MF -1 zoning would be detrimental to the area. He <br />9% <br />
