g�2 <br />houses to torn down in that area. <br />Mr. J. B. Doaks, 1113 Blake Road, appeared before the Council, requesting that Blake <br />Road be paved. <br />Reverend A. M. Seamon appeared before the Council requesting that improvements be made <br />to Johnson Street Park, Blake Road, and general improvements be made to streets in <br />the black community. <br />Mr. Leon Williams appeared before the Council, requesting that street improvements be <br />made in the black community. <br />Mr. Elbert Desmond appeared before the Council, requesting that the attention of the <br />City be directed to unkept and unattended lots and that improvements be made to John- <br />son Street Park, attention be directed to delapidated houses, and suggested a munici- <br />pal swimming pool. <br />Mr. J. H. Blankinship appeared before the Council in behalf of the Paris Independent <br />School District School Board and requested that the widening and paving project for. <br />24th Street S. E. remain in the budget and the project completed. <br />Dr. Donald Lewis appeared before the Council, requesting that the protective signaliza- <br />tion system on 24th Street S. E. remain in the budget and the project completed. <br />Mr. Paul Daniels appeared before the Council, questioning the request of the Senior <br />Citizens project for an addition to their building at Kaufman and 19th Street S. W..', <br />and was informed that the project was in the proposed budget <br />Mr. Homer Thornton appeared before the Council in behalf of the Paris -Lamar County <br />Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, stating that the chamber supported the hotel- <br />motel occupancy tax in which the City had a contract with the Chamber of Commerce for <br />the promotion of the City of Paris and that the project for the study of the downtown <br />area as proposed by the Downtown Development Association remain in the proposed. budget. <br />Mr. Thornton stated that the Board of Directors supported the Sanitary. - Landfill pro- <br />ject as well as the improvements on 24th Street S. E. stating that the project was vital <br />to the City as a whole. Mr. Thornton stated also that the Board of Directors sup - <br />ported the protective.signalization of 24th Street S. E. railroad crossing. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the public hearing closed. <br />Councilman Malone stated that,he felt that 24th Street S. E. was. adequate and that <br />12th Street S. E. leading to Jefferson Road and Paris High School could be widened; <br />that emphasis on Wise Field be taken off. <br />Councilman Williams stated that Wise Field improvements, in his opinion, could be <br />deleted from the budget. Councilman Williams stated that he was concerned in getting <br />the number of persons involved in assessment programs, that being presently 70%, to <br />participate in street assessment programs and suggested that major thoroughfare streets <br />be given priority. <br />Councilman Fisher suggested that the new budget omit development of Wise Field and <br />that he opposed the 24th Street S. E. project and questioned the railroad signaliza- <br />tion on 24th Street S. E. <br />
