525 <br />SECTION 14 - BENEFITS AND SERVICES FOR EMPLOYEES <br />SECTION 14.01— Holidays <br />New Years Day, Martin Luther King's Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4', Labor Day, <br />Thanksgiving Day and the Friday following, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are observed as <br />official holidays for all City employees in accordance with the following policies: <br />A. As many employees as possible are given each holiday off consistent with the maintenance <br />.of essential City functions. Except for Civil Service and Emergency Medical, Services, <br />employees in departments whose duties require the conduct of scheduled work on holidays, <br />receive additional leave days to equal the number of holidays worked. Civil Service and <br />Emergency Medical Services employees receive holiday leave equal to the number of <br />holidays worked. <br />B. Full -time, regular employees are entitled to paid holidays. Part-time regular employees who <br />would normally have worked on the day of the week observed as a holiday are paid for the <br />number of hours they would have worked had the holiday not occurred. Temporary <br />employees are granted unpaid holidays. <br />C. If a regularly scheduled holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the holiday is taken on a <br />Friday or Monday respectively. <br />D. If an employee is absent from work due to illness on the day before or the day after an <br />authorized holiday, the Department Head may require that the employee'present a doctor's <br />statement confirming the illness, before the employee receives pay for the holiday. <br />E. An employee on leave of absence without pay status on the scheduled work day immediately <br />preceding or following a holiday is not paid for the holiday. <br />F. Employees desiring to observe religious holidays not coinciding with official holidays are <br />given time off without pay or may be authorized to use accrued vacation leave. <br />SECTION 14.02 - Compensatory Leave <br />Non - exempt employees other than Civil Service and Emergency Medical Services who physically <br />work in excess of 40 hours in the work week can earn compensatory leave. Civil Service Fire and <br />Emergency Medical Services staff who physically work more than 212 hours in a 28 -day pay cycle <br />can earn compensatory leave. Civil Service Police staff can earn compensatory leave when they <br />physically work more than 80 hours in a pay period. Employees who work overtime will earn 1 %2 <br />hours of compensatory leave for -each hour worked with a maximum accrual of 80 hours. <br />Compensato =y leave cannot be transferred. Employees should receive prior authorization from <br />supervisor prior to taking compensatory leave. Employees who terminate employment will be paid <br />for any compensatory leave balance. <br />31 Revised 01 -25 -05 <br />
