. -.V v J <br />Permit (39), Mobile Home. <br />317 <br />Mayor Neeley referred the petitions to the Planning and Zoning Commission for their <br />study and recommendation for their meeting scheduled for February 1, 1999, and <br />before the City Council February 4, 1999. <br />Mayor Neeley asked if there were any corrections to the minutes of previous <br />meeting. A motion was made by Councilman Clifford, seconded by Mayor Pro Tern <br />Thomas, approving the minutes of previous meeting as presented. The motion <br />carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Malone presented the minutes from the Paris Public Library Advisory <br />Board and the Paris Economic Development Corporation with no action being <br />required. <br />Mr. Gary Vest, Director of Economic Development/Chamber of Commerce C. E. O., <br />appeared and presented the Paris Economic Development Corporation Annual and <br />Quarterly Reports. Mr. Vest said that the PEDC generated 466 contacts and <br />entertained 17 prospective companies during 1998 as a result of the advertisement <br />program. They participated in two trade shows, the North American Warehouse <br />Distribution Exposition and Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, and the North America <br />Manufacturer Conference held in Chicago. They also participated with the Texas <br />Economic Development Council in a reception in Houston for FORTRA which is <br />Foreign Trade Representatives and the Foreign Ambassadors that have offices in <br />Houston. Mr. Vest said that during the year they prepared a detailed wage and <br />benefit analysis on the local labor market, particularly for the industrial sector, which <br />is used in recruiting new industries. This type of information is often requested <br />immediately by prospects. <br />Mr. Vest said that during the year they have participated with the Texas Economic <br />Development Council in several activities. The PEDC received -in the month of <br />September the.Community Economic Development Award, an annual award that is <br />presented to communities within various population categories. <br />Mr. Vest said they have been active with the Texas Air Quality Coalition, an effort by <br />counties and communities along the Red River to keep the Texas Clean Air Strategy <br />from being imposed by the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission, and <br />they continue to work towards this program. Mr. Vest announced a meeting to be <br />held on January 25th at 1:30 P. M. at the Civic Center in Gainesville with the <br />Chairman of the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission. He encouraged <br />the City Council members to attend the meeting. <br />
