7- <br />r <br />t <br />�'•�. ...79.7 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />January 9, 1989 <br />The City Council of the City of, <br />..Paris:`_ -met in regular session, January <br />9, 1989, 7:00 P. M., Council Room; CityeHall, Paris�Texas. Mayor Eric <br />Clifford called the meeting to order 'with the following Councilmen <br />present: Curtis Fendley, Travis Wortham,.Marshall H: Kent', Jr., E. W. <br />(Bill) Booth, William E. (Bill);Davidson,'and Ron& Williams. Also <br />present was City Manager Michael E. Malone, City Attorney, T. K. <br />Haynes, and City Clerk, Mattie Cunningham. <br />Prayer was offered by Ron Byers, Chaplain of Paris Police Department. <br />Mayor Clifford asked if there were any corrections., to the minutes of <br />previous meetings, there _being" none;,- the* minutes.`were approved as <br />presented. <br />Mayor Clifford advised minutes of the Visitors and Convention Council <br />Committee has been furnished with no,action being required. <br />Mr. Lex Walters, General Manager' of Cooke Cablevision, appeared before <br />the Council explaining the reason - fore: outages occurring in the City. <br />Mr. Walters said the major reason- is,�-the. electrical` storms experienced <br />in the summer caused most of the problems with the 450 amplifiers they <br />have. Mr. Walters explained that problems in the:Pine Bluff area was <br />due to a loose wire, after this was discovered and working with Texas <br />Utilities, this was also corrected. Mr. Walters said the question of <br />why they were building outside the-City has been raised, and explained <br />that they were allowed to have the capital to do,this work along with <br />refurbishing their micro - wave - ,system: -�Mr. Walter told the Council that <br />negotiations are in progress_for: the` sale of Cooke Cablevision to TCA <br />Company, and would keep the Council posted regarding.this matter. <br />Reverend Evans was no present, to..speak -regar °ding the renaming of <br />Johnson Park, but Council Wortham did request .that Johnson Park be <br />renamed Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. because it =was located close to <br />Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. <br />Mayor Clifford instructed 'the City Manager °to place this item on the <br />next agenda for consideration. <br />Jim Farris representing 'Lamar County Chamber of Commerce appeared <br />before the Council requesting participation in 'the Enterprise Zone <br />Program stating that most of the Council is aware `qf the nature. of the <br />program and .requested a', public hearing be called to obtain public <br />comments concerning whether to make:application for the creation of an <br />Enterprise Zone.
