MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY OF PARIS <br />June 8, 1981 <br />The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Paris was held Monday, <br />June 8, 1981, 7:00 P. M. Mayor Burnett called the meeting to order with the <br />following Councilmen present: W. C. Francis, Walter F. Williams, Travis Wortham, <br />Joe Graham, and Larry McGee. Also present were City Manager, R. W. Sokoll, <br />City Attorney, T. K. Haynes, and City Clerk, H. C. Greene. <br />Prayer was offered by Rev. Ron Byers. <br />Mayor Burnett ask if there were any corrections to the minutes of previous <br />meeting furnished to the Council members. There being no corrections, the <br />minutes were approved. <br />Mayor Burnett announced that the first order of business would be consideration <br />of recommendations made by the Planning and Zoning Commission. <br />Mayor Burnett declared the public hearing open on the petition of David Hicks for <br />a change in zoning from a General Retail District to a Commercial District, on <br />Lots 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, Block 2, S. J. Wright Addition, located on the east <br />side of 17th S. W. between Bonham Street and Kaufman Street. <br />Mayor Burnett called for proponents to appear, and Mr. David Hicks appeared in <br />behalf of his petition. Mr. Hicks stated that his business would be open from <br />7:00 A. M. to 5:30 P. M. and closed on Sunday. <br />Mayor Burnett called for opponents to appear, and none appeared. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2577 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 1710 OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, <br />AND CHANGING THE BOUNDARIES ESTABLISHED BY THE ZONING MAP OF SAID CITY; ESTABLISH- <br />ING A COMMERCIAL DISTRICT (C) ON LOTS 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, AND 8,BLOCK 2, S. J. WRIGHT <br />ADDITION, ON PROPERTY BELONGING TO DAVID HICKS, SO AS TO INCLUDE THEREIN TERRITORY <br />FORMERLY DESIGNATED AS A GENERAL RETAIL DISTRICT (GR); AND DESIGNATING THE BOUND- <br />ARIES OF THE COMMERCIAL DISTRICT (C) SO ESTABLISHED. <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman <br />McGee for adoption of the Ordinance. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sokoll presented a replat of Block 15, Mayer Addition, located <br />between 33rd and 34th S. W. and W. Kaufman and W. Austin, Streets. <br />Mr. Hayden Strickland appeared before the Council to answer questions on the 40 <br />foot right -of -way included on the plat. Mr. Joe McCollum, Director of Community <br />Development, appeared before the Council recommending the dedication of an <br />additional 5 feet for street right -of -way on the 4 bounding streets. Mr. Ray <br />Butler owning property within the plated area appeared before the Council <br />objecting to the 5 feet right -of -way. After considerable discussion, a motion <br />was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Graham to table to the <br />next regular Council meeting.
