RESOLUTION NO, 2058 <br />WHEREAS, the Crape Myrtle has been a part of the history <br />of the City of Paris since 1867 when a Crape Myrtle from <br />Kentucky was planted on the south side of the Sam Bell Maxey <br />Home; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Crape Myrtle has been prominent on the Paris <br />scene since 1935 when Pat Mayse encouraged the planting of <br />Crape Myrtles in anticipation of tourist traffic attending the <br />Texas Centennial in 1936; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Crape Myrtle Committee of the Paris Council <br />of Garden Clubs was organized for the purpose of Crape Myrtle <br />beautification in Paris and Lamar County in 1967; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris has been <br />requested by the Crape Myrtle Committee, Paris Council of <br />Garden Clubs, Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee, <br />Tree Preservation Committee for the City of Paris, Downtown <br />Development Association, and Visitors and Convention Council <br />that the Crape Myrtle be designated as the official flower of <br />the City-of Paris; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris finds that <br />it is appropriate and fitting the the Crape Myrtle be desig- <br />nated the official flower of the City of Paris, Texas; NOW, <br />THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />That the Crape Myrtle, be, and the same is hereby designated <br />the official flower of the City of Paris, Texas. <br />Passed and adopted this 13th day of October, 1980, <br />ATT'E S' "' : <br />.ic ae Ma one, Mayor <br />H.
