City Manager Sokoll recommended that an Ordinance be prepared authorizing the <br />up- dating of benefits for employees in the Texas Municipal Retirement System <br />effective January 1, 1981, which included $2,500.00 death benefit for retired <br />employees, 10 year vesting for active employees, supplemental disability <br />benefits for on the job injury for active employees, and death benefits for <br />active employees. After discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Burnett, <br />seconded by Councilman Williams authorizing preparation of an Ordinance encompasing <br />the benefits as described. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sokoll requested authorization to advertise for bids for one <br />vehicle for the Fire Department, four new patrol cars for the Police Department <br />one trash truck for the Sanitation Department. A motion was made by Councilman <br />Burnett, seconded by Councilman Kyle approving the request of the City Manager. <br />The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Chief of Police, Whitley requested authorization for the sale of five Police <br />Department shot guns. Chief Whitley advised the Council that the guns were <br />not suitable for his Department and that some were unsafe, and that the current <br />budget approved the replacement of the guns. After discussion, a motion was <br />made by Councilman Kohls, seconded by Councilman Kyle that the guns be destroyed. <br />The motion failed 2 ayes, 5 nays, Councilman Kohls, and Councilman Kyle voting <br />aye. <br />After further discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Burnett, seconded by <br />Councilman Williams authorizing the repair to the guns as needed, with regard <br />
