Mayor Malone ask the Council if there were any action that they desired <br />to made concerning the recommendation of the Civil Service Commission <br />at an earlier meeting to pay Civil Service employees of the Fire and Police <br />Departments pay of a higher classification when an employee filled a higher <br />classification temporarily. <br />Motion was made by Councilman Burnett, seconded by Councilman Williams to <br />approve the Civil Service Commission's recommendations and authorize "Step <br />Up" pay effective October 1, 1978. Motion carried 6 ayes, 1 nay. Council- <br />man Philley voting nay. <br />Chief of Police, Charles Whitley appeared before the Council requesting <br />clarification as to the time limit to be paid for "Step Up" pay. Motion <br />was made by Councilman Burnett, seconded by Councilman Wunsch that "Step <br />Up" pay be paid by the day. Motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays, one abstaining. <br />Councilman Philley abstaining. <br />A motion was made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Farris <br />to take from the table the engineering matter tabled earlier in this meeting, <br />Motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />A motion.was made by Councilman Farris to pay W. C. Francis on a fee schedule <br />and expense -basis for work to date made on his proposals on the City Water <br />System. The motion was seconded by Councilman Burnett and carried 7 ayes, <br />0 nays. <br />After further discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Farris to purchase <br />the second pump and appurtenances as contained in the bids received at the <br />Council meeting on September 11, 1978 and as proposed by the Consulting <br />Engineers. Motion was seconded by Councilman Burnett and carried 6 ayes, <br />1 nay. Mayor Malone voting nay. <br />There being no further business the meeting adjourned. <br />MICHAEL E.
