Greene <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY OP PARIS <br />May 8 !1978 <br />The regular meeting of the City Council was held on Monday, May 8, 1978 at 7 :00 P.M. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Williams called the meeting to order with the following Councilmen <br />present: George Fisher, David Philley, Michael Malone, Raymond Wunsch, James W. <br />Farris and Billy Burnett. Also present were City Manager Robert Sokoll, City Clerk <br />H. C. Greene and City Attorney T. K. Haynes. <br />Prayer was offered by Reverend J. T. Shipman, Chaplain, First Baptist Church. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Williams announced that the first order of business would be the <br />election of a Mayor for the ensuing year and called for nominations. Councilman <br />Fisher nominated Councilman Malone, Councilman Philley nominated Councilman Farris. <br />Mayor Williams called for secret ballots and City Clerk H. C. Greene canvassed the <br />ballots showing four votes for Councilman Malone and three votes for Councilman <br />Farris, and Councilman Malone was elected mayor. <br />Mayor Malone requested Councilman Williams to chair the remainder of the meeting,. <br />Councilman Williams announced that nominations were open for mayor pro tem for the <br />ensuing year. Councilman Philley nominated Councilman Farris. Mayor Malone <br />nominated Councilman Fisher. Councilman Williams called for secret ballot and <br />City Clerk Greene canvassed the returns' showing four votes for Councilman Fisher <br />and three votes for Councilman Farris, and Councilman Fisher was elected Mayor Pro Tem. <br />Councilman Williams abked if there were nay additions or corrections to the Minutes <br />of previous meetings, and City Clerk Greene stated that the minutes should reflect, <br />concerning the Traffic Commission recommendation and authorization for an Ordinance, <br />that the speed limit on Center Street should read between 10th N.W. and 19th N.W. <br />from 30 miles per hour to a posted 40 miles per hour. <br />Councilman Williams called for a reading of a Resolution No. 1860 commending James <br />M. Brunette for his outstanding service as mayor and councilman of the City of Paris. <br />Motion was made by Councilman Wunsch and seconded by Councilman Fisher to approve <br />the resolution. Motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />
