generating plants dictates the need for the rate increase. The requested increase <br />would support their financial requirements through 1979 allowing them to expand <br />their facilities to meet the demand for service. He went on to say the planned <br />facilities were vital and asked the Council's support in the request. <br />Carrol Sexton questioned Mr. King asking if future savings from lignite produced <br />electricity would be passed on to the -Consumer and if the increase granted in 1977 <br />by the Public Utilities Commission had been sufficient. Mr. King answered saying <br />the last increase had been ' sufficient at the time but things have changed and <br />another increase is needed. He went on.to say-that any savings from lignite <br />production would be passed on to the consumer but that electric bills would con- <br />tinue to increase. <br />Mayor Brunette stated this would be the only public hearing on the matter and when <br />no one else came forthe to speak, he declared the Public Hearing closed saying the <br />Council Committee-would try to keep the public informed of developments concerning <br />the proposed rate increase.. <br />City Manager Greene advised the Council that the water mains in 7th N.E. from <br />Cherry Street to Booth Alley and in Booth Alley from 7th N.E. to 8th N.E. were 2" <br />or smaller in size and recommended they be replaced with a 6" water main prior to <br />paving them as authorized under the assessment program at the last regular meeting. <br />He requested authorization to replace the -lines at an.estimated cost of $8,350.00. <br />Following discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Wunsch, seconded by Councilman <br />Williams to authorize the work. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />The next item considered was an ordinance to eliminate stop signs on Clement Road <br />at Fitzhugh Avenue. Ordinance No. 2371: <br />"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT <br />THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PARIS BE AMENDED BY REVISING <br />THE TRAFFIC - CONTROL DEVICE MAP ADOPTED IN PARAGRAPH (b) OF SECTION <br />29 -80 OF SAID CODE, AS TO A PORTION OF THAT PROVIDED FOR IN <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2363 ADOPTED NOVEMBER 14, 1977; REPEALING ALL ORDIN- <br />ANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF <br />JANUARY 16, 1978." <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman <br />Malone for the adoption of the Ordinance. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the Council was now in Executive Session and City Manager <br />Greene discussed personnel matters. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the Executive Session closed and reopened the meeting. He <br />advised the audience that the Council had reviewed several applications for the <br />
