71 <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />April 14, 1976 <br />A special meeting of the City Council was held in the Municipal Court Room on April 14, <br />1976 at 7:00 P. M. Mayor James M. Brunette called the meeting to order with the <br />following Councilmen present: Joe King, Doyle Whitaker, 0. L. Rainey, Sam Stone, and <br />W. M. (Dub) Moore. Also present were City Manager K. R. Sweatt, City Attorney T. K. <br />Haynes, and City.Clerk H. C. Greene. <br />Prayer was offered by Reverend C. D. Hilburn. <br />Mayor Brunette announced that the purpose of the special Council meeting, as called <br />for by the City Charter, was to canvass the returns-of the- election held on April 3, <br />1976. <br />Returns from each of the 7 Wards was. opened and read aloud by Mayor Brunette. <br />City Attorney Haynes advised that in accordance with the court order, drawing of lots <br />for 1 and 2 year terms was the next order of business. The city attorney advised <br />that those drawing "seats" No. 1, 3, 5; and 7 would be considered elected for a two <br />year term of office, and those drawing "seats" No. 2, 4, and .6 would be considered <br />a one year term of office for re- election in Aprii, 1977. The drawing was held, as <br />follows: <br />Mayor James M..Brunette... NO. 1 <br />Ben M. Hinds NO. 2 <br />Walter F. Williams NO. 3 <br />0. L. Rainey NO. 4 <br />George Fisher, Jr. NO. 5 <br />David Philley NO. 6 <br />Jimmy Dan Stone N0. 7 <br />Resolution No. 1752, declaring the results of the election held on April 3, 1976, <br />and showing George Fisher, Jr. Ward 1, Waiter F. Williams - Ward 2, Jimmy Don Stone_ <br />Ward 3, Ben M. Hinds - Ward 4, David Philley - Ward 5, James M. Brunette -- Ward 6, <br />0. L. Rainey.- Ward 7, and shoeing the results of the drawing of lots; was presented. <br />A motion was made by.Councilman King and seconded by Councilman Stone for the adoption <br />of the resolution. The motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />
