z <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR 14EETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />May 10, 1976 <br />The Regular Meeting of the City Council was held in the Municipal Court Room on May 10, <br />1976 at 7:00 P. M. Mayor James M. Brunette called the meeting to order with the fol- <br />lowing Councilmen present: George Fisher, Jr., Ben Hinds, David Philley, 0. L. Rainey, <br />Jimmy Don Stone and Walter`F. Williams. Also present were-City Manager K. R. Sweatt, <br />City Attorney T. K. Haynes, and City Clerk H. C. Greene. <br />Prayer was offered by Reverend Larry Martin. <br />Mayor Brunette asked.if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the <br />previous meetings as furnished the Council members. There being none, the minutes. were <br />approved.. <br />Mayor Brunette announced that under terms of the City Charter, a mayor and a mayor <br />pro -tom would be selected at this regular meeting. Mayor Brunette announced that nomi -. <br />.nations were in order for the office of mayor. Counci.lfaaa Rainey nominated Council- <br />man Brunette and the nomination was. seconded by Councilman Hinds, Mayor Brunette <br />asked if there were further nominations, and Councilman Philley nominated Councilman <br />Hinds for mayor, with a second by Councilman Stone. Mayor Brunette called for the <br />vote on Councilman Hinds for mayor, which showed 2 for and 4 against. Mayor Brunette <br />asked for a vote on the nomination of Councilman Brunette, which showed 4 ayes, 2 <br />nays, and Councilman Brunette was elected mayor. <br />Mayor Brunette announced that nominations were in order for mayor pro -tem. Councilma_ <br />Rainey nominated.Councilman Hinds for mayor pro -tem. Councilman Fisher nominated <br />Councilman Williams. Mayor Brunette called for the vote which showed 2 votes for <br />Councilman Williams and..4 votes for Councilman Hinds, and Councilman Hinds was <br />elected mayor pro -tem. <br />Mayor Brunette announced the next order of business would be consideration of recom- <br />mendations made by the Planning and Zoning Commission at its meeting held on May 3,. <br />1976. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the public hearing open on the petition of Harrison & Walker <br />Construction Company for a change in zoning from a Two - Family Dwelling District and <br />Office District to a Planned Development District, Community Unit Development, on a <br />5.19 acre tract in City Block 112C,-located on Sherman Street at 14th Street S..E. <br />This matter had been continued from.the last regular Council meeting. <br />City Manager Sweatt advised the Council the petition had been withdrawn by the ap- <br />plicant. Mayor Brunette declared the public hearing closed. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the public hearing open on the petition of Elmer Whitaker and <br />Neil Whitaker to change from a Two - Family Dwelling District to a Planned Development <br />District, property located on Lot 3, City Block 53. <br />Mayor Brunette called for proponents to appear, and none appeared. <br />Mayor Brunette called for opponents to appear, and none appeared. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the Public hearing closed, and Ordinance No. 2284: <br />
