Regular Council Meeting
April 9, 2012
Page 5
to the City of Paris and retaining current industry. Mayor Hashmi's report has been attached as
Exhibit "A." Mayor Hashmi asked PEDC Director Steve Gilbert for comments. Mr. Gilbert said
he had only seen the report that morning and would like time to review it and come back to
Council.
14. Presentation, deliberate and act upon final report of the City Council Task Force 4
. Substandard Structures; and report on dilapidated structures.
Council Member Wright gave a presentation and final report of the City Council Task
Force on Substandard Structures (See Exhibit `B "). Council Member Wright said the Task
Force had completed its work. Mayor Hashmi closed the Task Force and thanked the members
for their service.
Code Enforcement Supervisor Robert Talley said the Building and Standards
Commission was back on track. Mr. Talley said the BSC Orders reflected that some structures
had been repaired and some of them had been demolished. Mr. Talley said they were looking
into the Task Force's recommendations by focusing more on repair instead of demolition.
Mayor Hashmi inquired about the number of properties identified as dilapidated structures and
how many had been corrected since the fall of the last building. Mr. Talley said five were
finished. Mayor Hashmi asked how many were initially identified and Mr. Talley replied that
eleven were identified in the downtown area. Mr. Talley said five were complete, three were in
progress and a report was being prepared on one. Mayor Hashmi asked how many more were on
the list that required correction. Mr. Talley said they had not covered the downtown area,
because they had brought back unfinished business from the August meeting, but were moving
forward. Mr. Talley said he would be giving another report at the May City Council meeting.
Mayor Hashmi asked that item 19 be moved forward on the Agenda.
A Motion to move item 19 forward was made by Council Member Pickle and seconded
by Council Member Avila. Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays.
19. Update and deliberate on application for disannexation filed by Terri Palmer; and provide
direction to City Staff.
A Motion to remove this item from the table was made by Council Member Pickle and
seconded by Council Member Avila.
